Communication...
...is what I enjoy. Pencil to paper. Fingertips to keyboard. No matter how I do it, it always resonates with me: fulfillment, fun, and, to complete the alliteration, fascination.
A perfectionist who understands when the doctrine of grammar, punctuation, and syntax demand allegiance, I also recognize and respond accordingly when they stand in the way of communication that is understandable and intelligible, entertaining and enlightening. It's not just about the writing; it's so much more than that. Put simply by William Bernbach:
For whereas the writer is concerned with what he puts
into his writings, the communicator is concerned with
what the reader gets out of it.
When I write, edit, or proofread a piece, I craft it so as to resonate with my audience. I'm satisfied when people read the final product and say, "Yeah. I get it."
Perhaps your search to find the right writer, editor, or proofreader led you to read this. In short, many people can fill those roles. I do so quite well. I'm passionate about doing so. When you mix the two -- the ability and the attitude -- then you have a heckuva find.
Moving from tight, intense copy to marathon-length communications is on my docket daily, not to mention creating copy that makes consumers laugh, academics snicker, and creative directors chortle, all the while holding their attention and getting something meaningful into their heads.
And after I have my second cup of java, things really get going.
I freelance for a living so I can focus on pursuits -- writing and otherwise -- that matter to me. You probably got this far because you'd like some help with something that matters to you. If that's the case, take a look around my site, and if you like what you see, let's talk.
I'm Derek Donald Hambrick. Writer, editor, proofreader . . . communicator. Pleased to meet you too.
